De Vere’s stunning Carrick on Loch Lomond golf course welcomed its touring professional, 1999 Open Champion, Paul Lawrie and 19 European Tour stars as the Paul Lawrie Foundation hosted a special fund raising event on the eve of the Barclay’s Scottish Open.

To open proceedings local school children were invited to the picturesque resort to enjoy a short game clinic from Britain’s last Major Champion.

In the afternoon Lawrie was joined by some of the European Tour’s biggest names, such as Darren Clarke, and recently crowned BMW International Open Champion, Nick Dougherty to play in a Pro-Am format to help raise money for his Foundation.

The Paul Lawrie Foundation was created in 2001 following Lawrie’s outstanding victory in the 1999 Open Championship at Carnoustie, and has been instrumental in developing golf in youngsters from Aberdeenshire

“I am very proud of my Foundation and am keen to develop it further afield than Aberdeenshire, and hopefully one day unearth a future Major Champion. It has been fantastic to combine my work with my Foundation and my association with The Carrick,” commented Lawrie.

“The Carrick course is a great place to welcome guests and it has been fantastic to be able to invite some of my Tour friends to enjoy the course and hospitality.

“I would like to thank all the sponsors, players and everyone at The Carrick for a great day, which has hopefully inspired some of Scotland’s next golfing stars!”

The Carrick on Loch Lomond, designed by Doug Carrick is regarded as one of the finest new courses in the UK.

It  meanders between the lowland banks of the famous loch and the undulating highland heath; all of which offers stunning views and a stern test to players of all abilities.

The par-71 championship layout has already hosted some of the world’s best players having been home to the Ladies Scottish Open on the Ladies European Tour in 2007 and 2008, and this year sees the return of the PGA Cup to Scotland.
