Musselburgh Links is a record breaker

Musselburgh Links, The Old Golf Course, has been awarded the Guinness World Record for as the “Oldest Golf Course in the World”.

The official world record is documented as: “The Musselburgh Links, The Old Golf Course, in Musselburgh, Scotland, UK, is the oldest golf course in the world.  Documentary evidence proves that golf was played on Musselburgh Links as early as 2 March 1672 although Mary, Queen of Scots reputedly played here in 1567.”

The Old Golf Course was initially a seven hole course until the eight and ninth were added in 1838 and 1870.

Musselburgh Links was an original Open Championship venue and hosted the tournament on six occasions between 1874 and 1889.

To commemorate the world record achievement Musselburgh Links, The Old Golf Course, was presented with an official Guinness World Record Certificate, which was happily accepted by Kenny Armstrong, Golf Starter at the Old Course.

Secretary of the Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club Robin McGregor added, “We are thrilled The Old Course is starting to receive the attention it richly deserves.”
