Karlsson opens new St Ives course

The official opening ceremony for the new St Ives Golf Club and the Titleist National Fitting Centre took place on Monday with Robert Karlsson, Swedish PGA Tour Professional, Ryder Cup team member and Titleist tour player.

Karlsson flew in from the States on Monday after competing in the PGA Championships in Wisconsin, to be in Cambridgeshire to officially open the new St Ives Golf Club complex and also the Titleist National Fitting Centre.

This was followed by a five hole exhibition round featuring the Swede,  Chris Riggall (Club Captain), James Reeson (Current Club Champion and County Junior player) and Julie Walter (Previous Lady Captain and 19 times Ladies County Champion)

Robert commented: “Considering the short time the course has been open, the greens are excellent and it is set to be a course of the highest quality in a few years time.”

St Ives has already established itself as one of the county’s top courses even though the course only opened in May 2010.

The £9 million project has seen the club relocate from its home of 87 years in St Ives to the new facilities at Needingworth.

In partnership with Titleist the new complex offers 18 holes of inland links golf, members driving range and a four bay custom fit centre for Titleist.

More good news is that the club belongs to 2-FORE!-1 and as a result offers half-price green fees (with a 2-FORE!-1 voucher) in midweek.
