Pro lands top award

The manager of four top golf courses has been honoured with a prestigious sports award.

Andy Carnall, golf manager at Sheffield International Venues (SIV), received the Derbyshire Golf Professional of the Year award at the Derbyshire Professional Golf Association (PGA) Dinner.

The award, voted for by other professional golfers throughout the country, recognises an individual’s contribution to the local golfing industry.

In his professional career, Andy has been crowned County Professional Stroke Play Champion on two occasions, won the Derbyshire Matchplay Championship and reached the final qualifying stages for the British Open four times.

Andy, who runs Tinsley Park, Beauchief and Birley Wood in Sheffield and Tapton Park in Chesterfield, said: “I am really pleased to have won this award because it feels great to be recognised for my commitment to the development of local golf.

“I am involved in many aspects of the sport, from running four leading regional pay and play golf courses for SIV to coaching both the County Elite Girls and County Junior Academy players. It is fantastic to be involved in the coaching of the next generation of players and seeing young talents emerge.”

Andy has been involved in the development and operation of the ‘Derbyshire County Golf Partnership’, which is made up of the four governing bodies in county golf – the Derbyshire PGA, Derbyshire Men’s amateur Association, Derbyshire Ladies Golf Association and Derbyshire Schools Golf. It is supported by funding from England Golf.
