Taste of golfing big-time at The Grove

Published:

Many of the most memorable moments in sport have been created in team events – from the FA Cup to The Ashes, from the Boat Race to The Ryder Cup – where talented groups of individuals combine to create a successful result for a team, a country or, as in golf’s case, a whole continent.

If you, like many golfers, find team events much more fun to play in than the usual individual stroke play competitions, than it’s time to grab your partners and create your own piece of sporting history by entering The 2011 Grove Teams Trophy.

Formerly known as The Grove Golf Challenge, The Grove Teams Trophy event provides amateur golfers with a unique opportunity to play The Grove’s award-winning Championship course in true tournament style, all in the company of three of your closest golfing buddies.

Last year’s champions were David Morris, Peter Heaney, Aran Coker, and Colin Midson, who combined to win the grand final with an impressive team score of 89 points. But challengers are already lining up to take their crown in 2011.

The Grove Teams trophy is open to all amateur golfers with a recognised club handicap and involves teams of four entering one or more of a series of qualifying events held at the five-star luxury resort in May, July and September.

The top three teams from each qualifier will then do battle in the Grand Final in October, which will be held under full tournament conditions over The Grove’s challenging Kyle Phillips-designed layout. The format of this exciting four-ball Stableford event sees the two best nett scores counting on each hole.

Each qualifier starts with breakfast, followed by free use of The Grove’s Tour-standard practice facilities, including unlimited balls on the full-length driving range, and use of the bunker and chipping greens, and the large putting green adjacent to the first tee.

Teams will then enjoy 18 holes of golf, followed by a buffet lunch in The Glasshouse restaurant. In addition to generous team prizes, which include ‘stay & play’ breaks to The Grove, there will also be nearest-the-pin and longest drive competitions, with all of the prizes generously provided by TaylorMade Golf.

Alongside valued sponsors TaylorMade Golf and M25 Audi, world-renowned watchmaker TW Steel is also continuing its support of The Grove Teams Trophy in 2011, with the four lucky members of the overall winning team each taking home a fabulous TW Steel timepiece, as well as the coveted Grove Teams Trophy.

The Grove was the scene of Tiger Woods’ stunning World Golf Championship victory in 2006 and belongs to 2-FORE!-1 Golf, offering half-price green fees on Mondays and Tuesdays in high season.

Price to enter a team of four is £600. To register your team, call 01923 296027, email rebecca.jones@thegrove.co.uk or visit www.thegrove.co.uk/golf and follow the links.
