Great golf to be savoured in Kent

Published:

Night golf, Texas scrambles and hog roasts are all on the menu this summer as Kent golf tees up a feast of post-Open Championship fun this August.

Three of the county’s ‘Regal Golf Coast’ courses stage their open weeks – when visitors are encouraged to take part in an array of competitions and events – with the festivities kicking off at Prince’s Golf Club (July 31-August 5) then Littlestone (August 8-12) and finally Royal Cinque Ports (August 20-29).

Highlight of the Prince’s meeting could well be the Prince’s 27. At £45 for a visitor it includes a round on each of the club’s three nine-hole courses and will test skills in three different formats of the game with greensomes, singles and betterball played on the Dunes, the Shore and the Himalayas.

Littlestone’s tournaments include Texas Scrambles, Team Stablefords and mixed team events, and are priced at approximately £25 per head for visiting players.

Deal Week, at Royal Cinque Ports, promises to draw in the crowds once again withfoursomes, seniors as well as adult/junior competitions. There’s even a hog roast and night golf on the Saturday (August 27).

Kent offers golfers a choice of more than 100 courses to play and fortunately many of them belong to 2-FORE!-1 so you can tackle them for half-price (with a 2-FORE!-1 voucher of course).

Royal St George’s (venue for this year’s Open Championship, from July 14-17) forms part of Kent’s ‘Regal Golf Coast’ along with Royal Cinque Ports (venue of The Open Championship in 1909 and 1920), Prince’s (the Open venue in 1932), Littlestone (a Final Qualifying course for this year’s Open) and North Foreland.

Complementing this quintet are London Golf Club (a European Tour Destination and home of the 2009 European Open and where work will soon start on a five-star golf and spa hotel resort) plus Chart Hills (designed by Sir Nick Faldo and ranked 82nd in Golf World Magazine’s Top 100 Courses in the UK and Ireland).

Visit Kent (www.visitkent.co.uk) has recently announced a new partnership with Golfbreaks.com (Europe’s largest golf travel company) and Shepherd Neame (the renowned Kent-based brewer, pub and hotel operator) to promote an array of carefully selected golf breaks and special-offer packages featuring many of the county’s best courses.
