Major plans revealed at top Surrey venue

Planning permission has been granted for the £30 million redevelopment of the new regional headquarters of the Professional Golfers Association and includes plans for a Hilton Hotel, Lakeland Lodges, luxury spa and golf academy.

Wildwood Golf & Country Club, Surrey, which is owned by Translloyd Developments, will have a new 100 bedroom hotel built – to be operated by Hilton – along with 40 exclusive Lakeland Lodges and an Oriental Spa. The plans also include extensive renovations to the existing club house and following the redevelopment work, the course will also become a Centre of Excellence for junior golfers.

Situated in the heart of Surrey, by the town of Cranleigh, Wildwood is a Par 72 course with USGA specification bent grass tees and greens, and has 27 holes, with each ninth holes coming back into the clubhouse.

Translloyd Developments director, Edmund O’Reilly Hyland, says: “Wildwood is an incredible course with an excellent reputation in the world of golf. It has always suffered from not being able to offer its visitors and members more.

“Rather than just being an outstanding golf course, it will now be an outstanding golf resort. The availability of Dunsfold Aerodrome – home to Top Gear – next door will also make the resort a playground for the rich and famous.”

As well as providing a top of the range golf facility, the redevelopment will also increase the appeal of the venue for weddings and corporate functions.

O’Reilly Hyland adds: “Currently the local area loses hundreds of thousands of pounds a year in hotel, restaurant and tourism income because visitors to the course are forced to head to Guildford and Horsham due to a lack of facilities in the area.

“By investing in the entire course we will not only be adding value for the members, but bringing additional income to the local community.”
