Get ready for bumper Midlands Golf Week

THE new Midlands Golf Week has received top level support from two of the region’s best women professionals.

Felicity Johnson, winner of the 2009 Tenerife Ladies Open, and Rachel Jennings, making her mark in her first year on the Ladies European Tour, are urging people to take the chance to get involved in golf.

More than 50 clubs across the region are backing a new drive to encourage more people to take up golf with a host of events and offers, like free taster golf sessions.

The county’s first golf festival tees off as the Open at Royal St George’s comes to its dramatic conclusion with a week-long programme from July 18-24.

Says Warwickshire golfer and Aston Villa supporter Felicity: “This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to try the game to just go along and have a go without any expense.”

Full details of what is on offer at each club and contact details can be found by visiting www.midlandsgolfweek.co.uk Clubs should be contacted in advance to book a place.

The county golf partnerships will be supporting initiatives and events run by clubs and facilities such as:

*FREE Taster sessions for beginners to give golf a go

*FREE coaching for all levels

*Discounted green fees

*FREE and discounted access to certain courses and driving ranges

*Women only and family coaching

*Membership and ongoing coaching opportunities

Regional development officer Sharon Heeley said: “These girls have shown what can be achieved by hard work and commitment, but golf is a sport that can be enjoyed be all ages and all abilities.

“You don’t have to be a professional to get so much out of the game, whether it be the sporting challenge, healthy exercise or an enjoyable social life. The Midlands Golf Week is an exciting new venture involving a host of clubs across the region in showcasing what golf has to offer.

“Anyone interested in getting involved in golf for the first time or who is interested in coming back to the sport can use the new website – www.midlandsgolfweek.co.uk – to find the event that best suits them.”
