Woburn players in top form

Woburn Golf & Country Club players have achieved outstanding on-course success in recent times.

The English Ladies Amateur Championship was an all-Woburn Final, the title going to Lucy Williams who has been a member of Woburn for about two years although she entered via her other club, Mid-Herts GC.

Her opponent in the final was 15 year old Charley Hull who plays out of Woburn and was eventually pipped in the decider after clubmate Lucy won with a birdie on the 19th hole.

They had 10 birdies between them and Lucy finished birdie, eagle, birdie!  Charley birdied the 17th to halve it, birdied the 18th, losing to an eagle 3 and then lost the 19th with a par.

Meanwhile, 13-years-old Ella Ofstedahl, also a Woburn member but plays out of Mill Green, won the Herts Junior Championship and also the Herts Ladies County Championship – the youngest ever to have done the ‘double.’

Woburn’s European Tour representative Ian Poulter recently won the Volvo World Matchplay of course and the Buckinghamshire club’s successes culminated at the weekend with the amazing British Ladies Open Amateur Championship victory by 16 year old Lauren Taylor, who has been a member of Woburn for the past five years.

Lauren triumphed at Royal Portrush where on her way to victory she inflicted defeat on the World Number 4 in the Ladies Amateur World Rankings.

It cdertainly promises to be a season to remember and cherish at Woburn G&CC…
