Junior golfers get lift at Ramsdale Park

Ramsdale Park Golf Centre’s invaluable work with junior golfers has been given a huge boost thanks to a £2,000 grant from a national sports programme.

Sportivate, a £32 million National Lottery programme that gives 14-25 year-olds access to six-week courses in a range of sports including golf, tennis and judo, has awarded the grant to enable the public pay-and-play facility to continue its hard work in introducing young people to the health and social benefits of golf.

Ramsdale Park – part of Burhill Golf & Leisure, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator – has worked tirelessly to promote junior golf, liaising closely with the Nottinghamshire Schools Partnership to introduce the sport into schools as well as staging regular golf coaching camps during the school holidays.

Head PGA Professional Steve Sayers and Teaching Professional Tom Wilson host frequent coaching courses with youngsters utilising Ramsdale Park’s extensive facilities, including covered and floodlit 25-bay driving range, putting green and The Lee Course – regarded as one of Nottinghamshire’s finest short par-3 golf courses.

Nick Birch, Ramsdale Park’s General Manager, said: “Receiving this grant is fantastic news for the golf centre as it aids us in continuing the hard work we have been putting in helping young people stay active and become involved in this great game.”

The Sportivate programme is aimed at helping those who are not currently choosing to take part in sport in their own time, or are doing so for a limited period. It will encourage them to continue playing sport in their communityafter the initial six-week course has finished.
