2-FORE!-1 best of britain: Cornwall

Cornwall is a great holiday – and golfing – destination. And here are the cream of the county’s 2-FORE!-1 crop…six venues which confirm it’s status as one of the best golf holiday hotspots in the land.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a 2-FORE!-1 voucher you can secure half-price green fees at all of them!

* St Mellion – This is the home of the magical Nicklaus course, one of England’s leading inland layouts and the first created by 18-times major champion Jack Nicklaus on these shores.

It also happens to be the crown jewels – and flagship course – of Crown Golf, the UK’s biggest golf course owner, and is poised to return to the European Tour big-time (it hosted six Benson & Hedges International Opens from 1990) in 2013 when it stages the English Open.

Not that St Mellion is all about the mighty Nicklaus, as it’s very much a resort venue and is backed-up by a swish, revamped hotel with top-notch leisure facilities and the revamped neighbouring18-hole Kernow track. However, it’s the Nicklaus – with its own very own Amen Corner after the turn – every visiting wants to get to grips with.

*Trevose G&CC – Harry Colt design and one of the top links tracks in the south west.

*Perranporth – awesome if somewhat quirky James Braid track with stunning coastal vistas.

* Trethorne – decent stay and play venue just off the busy A30 in North Cornwall.

* Cape Cornwall – underrated links near Penzance, playable all-year round.

* Carlyon Bay – splendid clifftop and parkland combo just outside St Austell. With a classy clifftop hotel on site.
