2-FORE!-1 six of the best

The 2012 season is now underway, the Masters is being played this week and you’re chomping at the bit for a quality but top value round of golf. Where do you go? Check out any of these 2-FORE!-1 belters and you’ll be in golfing heaven…you can tackle all of them for half-price with a 2-FORE!-1 voucher.

*Gleneagles (Queen’s course), Perthshire, Scotland  – Short-but-ever-so sweet James Braid track at the world-famous Perthshire venue.

It may be regarded as the third of the trio of Gleneagles courses but the Queen’s is an absolute gem and classic in its own right.

It majestically manoeuvres through an idyllic setting that will simply blow you away and the par-3s are simply stunning…and highly challenging. Indeed if you walk off the 200-yards 14th – with its elevated, well guarded two-tier green – with par, it’s a minor miracle!

*Mere G&CC, Cheshire – It’s known as the ‘Wentworth of the North’ and the Mere doesn’t disappoint, specially following the recent opening of a swish new on-site hotel.

It’s sheer class and that particularly applies to the superb parkland layout designed by legendary duo James Braid and George Duncan in 1934.

The front nine is relatively flat and easy-walking while after the turn the terrain is more undulating and features more dramatic holes, including a thrilling, twisting par-5 finale.

*Mannings Heath (Kingfisher course), Sussex – The wonderful Waterfall (members & members guests only) is the main golfing attraction here but the par-72 Kingfisher, at under 6,000 yards, is a much friendlier proposition and offers great value-for-money as well as a testing round of golf.

*Dunloe, Co. Kerry, Ireland – A cracking little (nine-hole, par-34) course in a cracking setting with quality practice facilities.

*St Pierre (Old Course), South Wales – Parkland golf doesn’t come much better than this which is why this special Marriott venue has set the scene for many top tournaments including Curtis and Solheim Cups.

*The Warwickshire, Warwicks – Top venue near Coventry and boasting two superb contrasting layouts, the Kings and Dukes, with impressive all round facilities.
