Double ace in Players Club open week

This summer’s Open Week at Bristol’s Players Club proved memorable in more ways than one.

The drama kicked-off when Bert Kynaston holed his tee shot at the 150-yards 2nd hole. It was Bert’s fourth ace and he was swiftly congratulated on his latest success, playing partner Derek Woodward firmly shaking his hand… then proceeding to hole his tee shot to unbelievably make it two aces in a row!

And if the double ace wasn’t enough playing colleague Greg Woodward’s tee shot was on line for a third but finished 4ft past the hole, though he holed out for a birdie two. However, the fourth player of the group – Les Woodruff – let the side down a bit by managing just a par 3!

The Players – a highly popular 2-FORE!-1 venue – opened a decade ago and the main US-style Codrington layout is long, open and extremely demanding with plenty of water to negotiate – you fire over water on three of the short holes.

But you’ll most remember the long left dogleg 15th which demands a precise drive and follow-up shot over the road and a lake. It’s absolutely awesome as is the nerve-jangling par 4 4th where you hit over aqua twice.
