The Centurion Club near St Albans, Hertfordshire, is on schedule to open in under a year from now.

The Club recently received planning permission to re-route its opening three holes through mature woodland and with construction work almost complete the eagerly-awaited new golf course will open in mid-summer 2013.

“Planning permission for our new opening three holes was the final piece in the jigsaw,” confirmed Managing Director, Scott Evans, who co-owns the high end private club in partnership with Chairman, Graham Wildish and two Dutch partners Bert Pronk and André Hendriks.

“It allowed us to complete the last of the construction work and means that we will open on schedule for summer next year.”

The new course meanders through woodland and over parkland and provides golfers with breathtaking views over the scenic Hertfordshire countryside.

It was designed by Simon Gidman, a former President of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects. Gidman is one of a number of acknowledged experts brought in to oversee the project, with Southern Golf and Troon Golf consulting on the course construction and agronomy respectively.

“We want the Centurion Club to be a private golf club of unrivalled quality which is why we have carefully selected a team of experts to consult on each facet of the project,” said Evans.

“Recruited from all over the world, our consultants are all renowned in their chosen fields. We are proud of what we have created and believe visitors will be impressed.”

Evans confirmed that prospective members can now contact the Club to book a personal appointment to view the course.

The Centurion Club is built on a picturesque parcel of land to the south west of the Roman city of St Albans and just half an hour’s drive from central London. The Club is not just in a perfect location for City workers looking for a haven in the countryside, just minutes from the affluent conurbations of Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Welwyn Garden City.
