A taste of golf in paradise in Mauritius

Golf in paradise is an often used – and exaggerated – phrase but definitely not in the case of the fabulous Le Touessrok couse in Mauritius.

Taking your clubs on the short boat ride from the mainland to the beautiful Ile aux Cerfs gives you time to savour the approaching reality of playing golf in an amazing natural setting.

The course was designed by Bernhard Langer who has succeeded in creating a golfing experience that will never be forgotten.

The fact that the course record is 72 (held by Tom Lewis) should put any player on their guard – ample warning not to get too distracted by the stunning scenery and a reminder that careful course management and concentration (on every shot) is required.

It is tight, the greens are small and you are just as likely to lose your ball to one of the many lakes or mangrove swamps on the second shot, as you are from the tee.

There are many great holes but look out for the par 5 11th. As you turn right into the sharp dogleg prepare to play alongside the white sanded beach until you reach an elevated green overlooking the turquoise lagoon. With mountains in the distance pause for a photo and enjoy one of the finest places any golfer could hope to find.

The boat trip back provides the perfect opportunity not to tot up your lost balls but reflect upon a truly unique course and golfing experience of a lifetime.
