Three aces in one day at Dorset G&CC

On a super Sunday at Dorset G&CC, an extraordinary hat-trick of aces were recorded on the same day in the same competition, the Kingsley Cup.

The competition is in memory of Kingsley Whiffen who was a very good golfer who encouraged and supported the Junior section and had a lively, exuberant personality.

And, according to a club official, three holes in one carded in a single competition would have had him in “raptures of delight.”

Glen Edwards, a 5 handicapper, started this extraordinary run of aces when he holed out at the 7th hole with a solid 8 iron.

Garry Lewis was next to hole out with his tee shot, again at the 7th hole and again with an 8 iron.  This inspired him to a score of 40 points that will make a good dent in his 23 handicap.

Julian Flower, also a 5 handicapper, completed the hat trick of ‘ones’ at the 17th hole with a well struck 6 iron.

To add to this amazing feat, Garry and Julian played in the same fourball.  Pete Foster, who played with Garry and Julian, declared “I felt so inadequate today!

“This must be a unique happening and the clubhouse was rocking and certainly had a very jolly atmosphere at lunchtime.”
