Ufford Park hosts Brazil’s Olympic gymnast hopefuls

Popular 2-FORE!-1 venue Ufford Park Hotel & GC in Suffolk recently entertained members of the Brazilian Olympic Gymnasts party.

Nearby Ipswich is hosting the Brazilian gymnasts preparing for the upcoming London Games – the team are training at Pipers Vale Gymnastics Club under the supervision of Andy Wood (Head Coach at Pipers Vale) and carrier of the Olympic Torch in Essex this year.

Their programme is very gruelling but something the Brazilian coaches have learnt from past experience is that just intense training day in day out doesn’t always result in gold – there has to be some downtime.

This is where Ufford Park Hotel proved useful – the venue offered the team not only an afternoon of pure relaxation in their luxury thermal suite spa but also some golf tuition from resident PGA pro Stuart Robertson from the Doctorgolf Academy.

With the next Olympics being held in Brazil and being the first Olympic Games where golf will be classed as an official Olympic sport, it was a fitting finale to their visit.

”Both the team itself and their chaperones loved their afternoon with us – they had not been into a spa before and loved trying all the different heating & cooling rooms out.

“Afterwards they all tried playing some golf – another thing none of them had ever done before.

“Firstly, we did some putting then moved into the driving range for some driving. Their natural agility certainly helped them and they all thoroughly enjoyed experiencing something new.

“Unfortunately I was unable to get any tickets myself to actually go to the games this summer but I am hoping to watch as much as I can on the TV,” said Stuart Robertson. Director of Golf at Ufford Park.
