*Perranporth – scenic, undulating and quirky James Braid track with stunning coastal vistas. Indeed on several elevated tees you’ll stand in awe of the breathtaking surroundings and with a number of blind holes you’ll regularly be aiming at the marker posts atop the giant sand dunes ahead of you…and praying that you’ve found the fairway on the other side! * St Mellion – This is the flagship venue of Crown Golf, the UK’s biggest golf course owner, and is poised to return to the European Tour big-time (it hosted six Benson & Hedges International Opens from 1990) in 2013 when it stages the English Open. It also happens to be the home of the stunning Nicklaus course, the Golden Bear’s first course design on these shores.
Not that St Mellion is all about the mighty Nicklaus: it’s very much a resort venue and is backed-up by a swish, revamped hotel with top-notch leisure facilities and the much-improved neighbouring18-hole Kernow track.
However, it’s the Nicklaus – with its own very own Amen Corner after the turn – every visiting wants to savour and pit themselves against. And its well worth taking the time, trouble and expense with the latter being softened by the fact you can play it for half-price thanks to 2-FORE!-1!

* Carlyon Bay – splendid clifftop and parkland track near St Austell with a wonderful on-site hotel.
*Trevose G&CC – classy Harry Colt links with some memorable holes, the par-5 left dogleg 4th to a blind, beach-side green being the pick of a classy bunch.
