Six more top 2-FORE!-1 tracks where you’re guaranteed a round to remember…
* Portal (Championship course) – one of the north west’s finest stay and play venues, Portal is a golfing paradise. Top attraction though is the 20-year-old Donald Steel-designed Championship course which claimed the region’s Golf Course-of-the-Year award in 1995. There’s a terrific combination of holes including the stunning par-5 3rd although the signature hole is the par-3 14th which is surrounded by both water and trees.
*Tehidy Park, Cornwall – although only two miles from the sea, this parkland venue has a mix of open holes, some with strategically-placed streams but many featuring tree-lined fairways. It’s a gently undulating layout but relatively easy-walking but you have to be on your mettle throughout and that particularly applies at the par-3 17th, requiring a 170-yards carry over water.
*Royal Tarlair, Scotland – this clifftop, parkland course runs parallel to the cliffs for many holes climbing steadily then dropping back before turning seaward at the 13th, the course’s most memorable hole.
*Hellidon Lakes, Northants – A fun place to stay and play: take your pick from 27 holes of exciting parkland golf, tennis courts, and spa in the on-site hotel which also features a tenpin bowling alley and golf simulator.
*Mount Murray, Isle of Man – the island’s only stay and play venue offers something for everyone including a fitness centre, squash courts… and a challenging undulating parkland course.
*Dorset G&CC, Dorset – classy resort boasting 27 holes of parkland golf along with luxury Scandinavian lodges accommodation.
