2-FORE!-1 six of the best

Don’t know where to use that 2-FORE!-1 voucher? Take your pick from these top tracks dotted all over the country…

*The Glen, East Lothian – originally a nine-hole golf course, The Glen was extended to 18 in 1906 by James Braid and Ben Sayers. It hugs the sparkling coastline and its series of spectacular holes have great views of the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Worth playing if only for the 13th, a tiny blind par-3 with the beach very much in play. This is the backdrop to some of the best-value golf in the country.

*Walmer & Kingsdown, Kent – James Braid designed clifftop course is in the ‘White Cliffs Country’ set on the cliffs between Dover and Deal. It provides stunning views of the Channel from every hole and being based on chalk, it drains exceptionally well so is an excellent year-round venue.

*Woldingham, Surrey – set in the heart of the countryside in the picturesque Halliloo Valley near Caterham, Woldingham is one of Surrey’s unsung golfing heroes: but it’s good fun, challenging, usually in good condition (it’s USGA-spec and sits on fast-draining chalk) and boasts an amazing stately mansion clubhouse.

*Painswick, Glos –  short, quirky and great fun and in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds. It’s 900ft above sea level, so the views are pretty spectacular.

*Thorpe Wood, Cambs – superb pay-and-play mature parkland track on the outskirts of Peterborough.

*Worsley Park, Manchester – outstanding Marriott stay and play with a mature parkland layout with lots of water and sand to negotiate.
