Four aces in three weeks at Redbourn GC

Golfers at Redbourn Golf Club have been collecting quite a few free drinks recently after celebrating four hole-in-ones in just three weeks.

The traditional hole-in-one bell has been regularly rung with the 163-yard Par-3 16th hole swallowing up three of the aces, while the other came courtesy of young golfer Lewis Titcombe on the first hole of Redbourn’s Par-3 Kinsbourne Course.

It was young Lewis who set the ball rolling with his ace three weeks ago, which was swiftly followed the following day by George Denton. Two in 24 hours was enough of a feat, but another two soon followed with Richard Farris slotting one, followed by Christine Greig last week.

“It’s been quite remarkable,” said Ian McDowell, Redbourn Golf Club General Manager. “No one has ever heard anything quite like it – it was quite a shock to hear the bell ring twice in 24 hours, but to hear it two more times in quick succession was incredible. I can only think that with all the wet weather recently the members have been out on the covered driving range honing their skills.

“What makes it all the more impressive is that the majority of them have come at the 16th, which runs slightly downhill but has a fairly flat green, so there’s no natural contours that can funnel the golf ball towards the hole, it’s just been a complete coincidence.”

Redbourn will be hoping to make it five in four this week as they celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a special golf day which will see more than 50 golfers from around the region teeing up on the 18-hole Ver Course, which winds its way through the Hertfordshire countryside.

The team event will have a British theme with teams encouraged to embrace a patriotic theme and wear red, white and blue outfits or any other traditional British garb they fell appropriate.

There are still places available for teams to enter. Entry will cost £30 for members and £40 for non-members. Included in the price will be coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, 18 holes and post-golf lunch followed by the prize giving and a raffle.
