Lumine to host European Tour qualifying school

Troon, the leader in upscale golf course management and development, has announced that Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, one of Europe’s most impressive new golf destinations, has been selected to host the Second Stage of The European Tour’s prestigious Qualifying School.

The tournament will see some of the world’s brightest young stars convene at the stunning Costa Dorada development towards the end of the year to compete over the testing Greg Norman-designed Lumine Lakes Course to earn playing privileges on the 2013 European Tour International Schedule.

Lumine joins Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, just south of Alicante and recently voted one of Continental Europe’s Top 100 courses, as Troon-managed facilities bestowed with the honour of hosting this year’s Qualifying School.

“We’re delighted for Lumine that this honour has been bestowed upon them as it is testament to the resort’s rapid rise in the golfing world and the hard work and dedication of the management team in place,” commented Bruce Glasco, Vice-President and Managing Director, Troon International Operations.

Located just an hour south of Barcelona on the Costa Dorada, Lumine is a golfers’ paradise that is primed for hosting major golfing events, with 45 holes of championship golf in pristine condition all year round plus world-class practice facilities and two clubhouses.

Mike Stewart, Director of The European Tour’s Qualifying School, says: “This is a hugely important event for The European Tour as it gives professional golfers, both young and old, the opportunity to realise their dreams of playing on the European Tour.”

The challenging Lumine Lakes is a links-style championship layout that features several water hazards, which wind around the picturesque Sèquia Major wetlands.

Calle Carlsson, General Manager, Lumine Golf Club, sees the Qualifying School as the first step to bigger things for Spanish hottest new destination, saying: “We’re looking forward to welcoming the stars of tomorrow  and I can guarantee them a course that will be in great condition over the four days.

“The golf courses and the entire resort have been set up to headline and showcase major events, and I have no doubt this will be the start of something special for both Lumine Golf Club and the Costa Dorada region.”
