Hoebridge Golf Centre’s Sandra Combstock was popping the Champagne corks after winning the UK Public Courses Championship, at the Home of Golf, St Andrews for the second year in succession.

Sandra, from Woking, Surrey, who plays off a handicap of seven, saw off the challenge of 31other golfers from across the UK to be crowned Gross Winner of the championship, played over the Eden Course at one of the world’s most famous golfing venues.

Six fellow Hoebridge golfers took part in the championship, with Sally Lester (8th), Carol Hardy (14th), Elaine Watts (18th) and Debbie Evans (30th) competing alongside Sandra in the Ladies event, while Alan Evans and Peter Smith finished ninth and 37th respectively in the men’s competition.

In order to qualify for the grand final at St Andrews all seven of the team from Hoebridge – part of BGL Golf, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator – had to come through a regional qualifying event.

Mike O’Connell, Hoebridge Golf Centre Senior General Manager, said: “It is a great honour for us here at Hoebridge Golf Centre to welcome back a double national champion. Sandra is an exceptional golfer and a popular figure around the centre, hopefully she can go on and complete the hat-trick next year.

“It was a particularly strong showing from Hoebridge to have seven of our golfers competing in the grand final, we are extremely proud of all of them.”
