2-FORE!-1 six of the best

This week’s top six 2-FORE!-1 tracks where you’re guaranteed a great golfing experience…

Royal Ashdown Forest (East Course), Sussex – A more than worthy neighbour for Royal Ashdown’s no. 1 golfing attraction, the awesome Old Course. It too is over a century old and shortly after being turned into a full 18 hole layout in 1932, the West staged the English Ladies Championship.

Being short in length terms (there’s only one par-5) and minus bunkers – it is plotted on prime public land – the West looks easy prey. But anybody who underestimates it is in for a torrid time owing to the undulating terrain and the importance of hitting spot-on approach shots.

*Fortrose & Rosemarkie, Ross-Shire, Scotland – The handiwork of James Braid, this is a short but magical links exquisitely plotted on the narrow Chanonry peninsula.

*Canterbury, Kent -The Garden of England is the home of some of England’s finest courses and this Harry Colt track is right up there among them.

*Royal North Devon, Devon – If you enjoy traditional links golf this is the place for you. Royal North Devon, founded in 1864, is the oldest course in the country and is regarded as the St Andrews of England.

*Carden Park (Nicklaus course) – Jack Nicklaus courses are usually pretty challenging affairs and Carden Park is no exception to the rule though it’s a fair test and by no means the most daunting of the Golden Bear’s tracks.

*Manor House, Wiltshire – A magical rollercoaster of a track plotted amidst 365 stunning acres of breathtaking Cotswold countryside.
