Top Northumberland venue Close House near Newcastle this week revealed that United Carlton Office Systems in Gateshead have become the 18th corporate member at the golf club, giving evidence that the golf course is still a top choice in business relations.

With two outstanding 18 hole courses, one of which was voted one of the top 100 courses in England, and Lee Westwood as their tour pro, Mark Bryce, director at United Carlton, said: “I have been playing at Close House since the Westwood Colt opened and have watched it develop. As a company we believe that this a top opportunity for our business to partner with a high profile location with a high volume of business traffic and decision makers.

“We see this as a way to reward our existing clients and to attract new clients in a relaxed setting. This is all about brand association for our board. Close House has to be one of the top UK recognised sports venues, there are simply not that many locations that are as high profile, especially with with Lee Westwood as their attached tour pro and the transport links via air, rail and road”.

United Carlton will join an impressive list of corporate members including UBS, St James Place, Barclays, Egger, Meldrum Construction, TSG, Mill Volvo, Lloyds BMW, Sintons, KPMG, Collingwood Insurance, PWC, GE Wellstream, UPS, Pyeroy and Speedflex.

John Glendinning, general manager of Close House commented: “We’ve invested over £12million in the golf facilities at Close House, including re-modelling the Westwood Filly. Our intention was always to make the corporate membership as attractive as possible with opportunities to include their branding on the course, corporate golf days and events, accommodation in the new courtyard rooms and the chance to broker relationships within the North East business community.

“We see the 18th place as a real marker in our development as a golf venue. We want to develop this area of the business and still have associate membership packages available. It’s a real growth area and we continue to invest in our facilities to make this an elite destination in the UK for golf.”
