James shades it in Arizona desert

A top class field assembled in the desert playground of Scottsdale, Arizona, to compete in the 18th Annual Arizona Classic Pro-Am, one of the PGA’s premier winter pro-am events.

The 72-hole pro-am was staged over four of the desert’s most prestigious courses: Desert Highlands, Quintero, Grayhawk and We-Ko-Pa. In addition Challenge Days were played at Troon North & TPC Scottsdale (the host course for the PGA Tour’s WM Phoenix Open).

South Region trio of James Ablett (pictured in action), Benn Barham & Rob McGuirk were all in contention, but it was the Lee-on-the-Solent player Ablett who would hold on for a two-shot victory over former European Tour player Barham, with Princes’ Rob McGuirk a shot back in third.

The team event was equally close with the lead changing several times. But it was Luke Bangerter’s team who charged through the field on the final round to claim victory. Rob McGuirk’s team were second, with Stephane Chauffour’s team third.

James Ablett also won the Troon North Challenge Day, while Brett Taylor was victorious in the TPC Scottsdale Challenge Day.

The Arizona Classic is just one of a series of high quality Pro-Am Tour events organised by The American Golf Holiday – others include The California Classic Pro-Am, Scottsdale Classic Pro-Am, Las Vegas Classic Pro-Am, Hawaiian Classic Pro-Am, Hilton Head Pro-Am, Sawgrass Classic Pro-Am, and Whistling Straits Classic Pro-Am.
