2-FORE!-1 best of britain: Northants

What Northamptonshire lacks in 2-FORE!-1 quantity it more than makes up for in quality terms with the county including a one-time European Tour venue and some top stay and plays.

*Hellidon Lakes – A great place to stay and play in rural Northamptonshire. It’s not only the home of 27 holes of impressive parkland golf with good practice facilities but a splendid modern Q Hotels hotel – the wide range of amenities include a spa, tennis courts and even a tenpin bowling alley. Great fun and if the weather is dodgy you don’t have to miss out either as you can tackle the indoor golf simulator machine instead.

*Collingtree Park – Stunning US-style Johnny Miller-designed layout just outside Northampton and a former European Tour venue.

*Oundle – Short, quirky, fun, challenging and gently undulating parkland with a good variety of holes.

*Kettering – The oldest course in the county should be straightforward enough since James Braid’s track only has two water hazards, just a handful of bunkers and five par-3s. But in truth it will test you all the way and if you have a tendency to hit a big slice, a pre-round visit to the club shop to stack up on golf balls is well advised!

*Staverton Park – Fine all round venue with a challenging parkland track and a De Vere hotel on site.
