2-FORE!-1 Six of the Best

Published:

More cracking 2-FORE!-1 courses to keep you on-course for a memorable golfing experience for significantly reduced green fees. This week’s picks have something for everyone, including a classic Welsh links and a formidable Scottish parkland.

*The Warwickshire (King’s Course), Warwicks – The King’s course reigns: not only is it the longer of the two Karl Litten-designed courses  – the neighbouring Earl’s is more open and US-style – but the tree-lined King’s is easier on the eye if not to play.

*Scarcroft, West Yorks – Lives but deservedly thrives in the shadows of star-studded neighbours Alwoodley and Moortown. But Scarcroft is a quality undulating parkland course, laid out in 1937 by Major Charles Mackenzie, in its own right.

*Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales – Breathtaking natural links – James Braid applied the finishing touches – where golf has been played for 125 years. Tenby has it all: fast running, gently rolling fairways, pot bunkers, blind shots and lightning quick greens…and magnificent coastal vistas.

*Royal Ashdown Forest (West Course), East Sussex – Like the neighbouring Old Course, it’s bunkerless but remains a fine Championship layout in its own right with accuracy and good course management critical to avoid swathes of heather and gorse.

*The Players Club, Bristol – The Codrington course is tough and demanding with water features – and memorable holes – galore. It’s summed up by the breathtaking par-4 4th where you hit over aqua twice.

*The Roxburghe, Scottish Borders – This outstanding Dave Thomas-designed parkland layout crosses glorious rolling Borders country next to the River Teviot and the par-5 ‘Viaduct’ hole is an absolute belter.
