2-FORE!-1 Best of Britain: Derbyshire

Derbyshire is something of an underrated golfing county but it undoubtedly boasts a splendid variety of courses, including a pair of excellent stay and play venues, and fortunately several belong to 2-FORE!-1 Golf.

*Breadsall Priory (pictured) – top Marriott resort where you can take your pick between the contrasting Priory and Moorland layouts. The Priory is the no.1 attraction in summer time but the open, exposed but fast-draining Moorland comes into its own at this time of the year, making Breadsall a great year-round venue. The Priory is something of a rollercoaster of a track with plenty of timber – and water – to avoid. It also features several thrilling elevated tees including one in front of the manor house hotel where you drive over the entrance road!

*Ashbourne – fine par-71 undulating parkland with sensational views of Dovedale and the Peak District.

*Morley Hayes – just down the road from Breadsall and similarly another excellent stay and play venue wiith impressive all-round facilities.

*Buxton and High Peak (pictured) – short, fun and quirky gently undulating layout with a blind, driveable (it’s downhill) par-4 finale.

*Chesterfield – mature parkland track which has been on its present site at Walton since 1906.

*Chapel-en-le-Frith – plotted on gentle rolling parkland surrounded by breathtaking Peak District panoramas.
