Yorkshire is a big county and is big in terms of quality golf courses too with a good number fortunately belonging to 2-FORE!-1 and offering 2-FORE!-1 golf. Here are some of the best in the north of the White Rose county…
*Rudding Park – Outstanding mature parkland Hawtree layout ably supported by the testing, engaging six-hole Repton Course, superb facilities plus a luxury on-site hotel. A top place to stay and play.
* Aldwark Manor (pictured) – If you enjoy a nice relaxing round you’ll be in golfing heaven at Aldwark Manor: the course sits perfectly within 120 acres of parkland, featuring mature, rare trees which help to create a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere. All this and with a 19th century Manor House and a 55-room hotel as its centrepiece. It’s set in 100 acres of parkland on the River Ure and also boasts a leisure centre and spa.
* Hunley Hall – Underrated Hunley boasts a striking north east coastline location and from a golfing perspective has it all, unusually including 29 holes which gives four different 18-hole permutations. Former European Seniors Tour stalwart John Morgan was responsible for the original layout in 1993 with the other 11 holes being created three years later.
There may be 29 holes but there’s absolutely no doubt about the pick of them: it’s got to be ‘Snaith’s,’ the breathtaking short par-4 downhiller on the Morgan’s with its elevated providing amazing coastal views.
*Whitby GC – A game of two halves: several holes are perched high on the cliffs and offer dramatic views and challenges while you have to cross a main road to play a parkland stretch.
*Scarborough South Cliff – Provides great holiday golf thanks to an intriguing clifftop/parkland combination of holes. After the opening parkland-style holes you walk through a housing estate across the road to play some thrilling golf perched high on the cliffs.
