Langland Bay grabs coveted Welsh Club of the Year title

The 2013 Welsh Golf Club of the Year, Langland Bay, has enhanced its reputation further by installing golf’s most in-demand coaching and club-fitting technology: Foresight Sports GC2 smart-camera system.

With his club having come close to winning the Golf Union of Wales honour in the past two years, PGA director of golf Andrew Minty was delighted to finally get his hands on the title – and believes the planned installation of the GC2 may have been a factor in the award.

Minty, 32, explained: “I have wanted to win this prestigious award for a number of years, and to win it this year is testament to all the staff’s hard work over the last few years and the great strides we have made as a golf club. It is personally an honour to win this award and one of which I’m very proud.

“I included the GC2 and our indoor training facility in my application for the golf club of the year award because it certainly is an additional benefit to our members and guests. It offers a unique experience and helps give us a state-of-the-art facility.”

The club, which, located as it is on the Gower Peninsula, offers wonderful 360-degree views, will be using the market-leading Foresight technology in its ‘swing room’.

“We will be using the GC2 for lessons, custom fitting, team building, societies, and for our own members to use. Our indoor training facility has a vast amount of room to house the GC2, simulator screen, custom-fit equipment and an indoor putting green. Because the outdoor practice facilities are quite limited at Langland Bay, we have to come up with other ways to create a junior academy and give our members and visitors a unique experience, not just on but off the golf course.

“The GC2’s reputation for quality and reliability is renowned, and, after the demonstration we had, we realised it was a cost-effective option for us given the support and reliability.

“The members love the fact they will have an indoor facility to use and warm up in. Also, it provides for them the ability to play indoors on a championship course – for example the Brabazon course at The Belfry – see the ball flight on the screen, and make practising an enjoyable part of their membership, whereas, before, practising was limited.”

Foresight Sports GC2 – which directly measures ball-flight data at launch using ultra-high-speed cameras – and HMT (Head Measurement Technology) is the most in-demand technology in golf, having revolutionised club fitting and analysis since its launch in 2010. It was swiftly approved and recommended by many of the world’s leading club manufacturers including Titleist, Cleveland/Srixon, Cobra/Puma, PING and TaylorMade.
