2-FORE!-1 Six of the Best
Published: Last updated:
With courses slowly but surely drying out from one of the wettest winters on record, now is the time to start playing again and taking full advantage of 2-FORE!-1 Golf, the biggest and best discounted green fee scheme in the game. Once again, here are six of the scheme’s finest…
*Fairmont St Andrews, (pictured) Fife, Scotland – Has hugely benefited from a major re-design with several new holes created while the terrific Torrance now features revetted bunkering. Was Open Qualifying venue in 2010 and has staged the Scottish Seniors three times.
*Scarcroft, West Yorks – Lives but deservedly thrives in the shadows of star-studded neighbours Alwoodley and Moortown. But Scarcroft is a quality undulating parkland course, laid out in 1937 by Major Charles Mackenzie, in its own right.
*Players Club, Bristol – The Codrington course is tough and demanding with water features – and memorable holes – galore. It’s summed up by the breathtaking par-4 4th where you hit over aqua twice.
*Portal (Championship course), Cheshire – Designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1990, this Cheshire parkland cracker has a bit of everything including a 600-yards plus par-5 and a smashing par-3 to a near-island green.
*Chartham Park, West Sussex – Has been entertaining golfers of all playing levels since opening just over 20 years ago. It’s an outstanding, fast-draining Neil Coles-designed parkland with awesome North Downs vistas.
*Leighton Buzzard (pictured), Beds – A magical mix of woodland and heathland holes. It’s not the longest layout (two par-4s are under 255 yards) but most fairways are densely tree-lined so you’ve got to keep it arrow straight.
