Lumine strengthens European Tour connection

Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community (pictured) continues to break new ground with the news that the Challenge Tour’s Challenge de Catalunya will be held at the Spanish facility on the Costa Daurada on April 24-27.

“To be selected as the new home of the Challenge de Catalunya is an absolute honour and recognition of all the great work that has been achieved at Lumine in the past few years,” commented Calle Carlsson, General Manager at Lumine Golf & Beach Club.

“The announcement also sees us strengthen our relationship with The European Tour, following two successful editions of The European Tour Qualifying School. We look forward to welcoming all the competitors in April, and watching them plot their way round the challenging Lakes Course in pursuit of the title.”

Returning to Spain’s Costa Daurada, the second edition of the Challenge de Catalunya will take place over the Greg Norman-designed Lumine Lakes Course. The 160,000€ event has been reinstated following the 2012 edition won by now European Tour star Brooks Koepka.

No stranger to the tour, the Troon-managed facility has welcomed the European Tour’s Qualifying School Stage 2 for the past two years as well as the PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship and this week’s Nordea Tour.

“Lumine Golf Club has demonstrated its credentials as a tournament host venue, and we are delighted with this choice for the 2014 Challenge de Catalunya. We have learnt we can rely on a well presented golf course and an enthusiastic team who will do their utmost to ensure the event is as equally enjoyable as it is well-organised,” commented Alain de Soultrait, Director, European Challenge Tour.

One of Europe’s most diverse golfing destinations, Lumine Golf Club includes the Greg Norman designed Lakes Course and the more traditional Hills Course which runs through pine and olive trees with spectacular views of the nearby coastline.

The two championship courses are further complimented by the aptly named 9-hole Ruins Course, another Norman design that weaves its way through Roman archaeological remains completing the diverse 45-hole offering of immaculately presented facilities that caters for golfers of all ages and abilities.

Off the course, the region has been commended for its diversity. The region’s capital, Tarragona, is home to some of the best restaurants in the Costa Daurada while Lumine’s Beach Club, situated above the Playa Del Llarga bay, is fast becoming one of the most fashionable venues.
