2-FORE!-1 Six of the Best

This week’s pick of the 2-FORE!-1 Golf crop ranges from Saltash just outside Plymouth to the northern outpost of southern Scotland with a quartet of cracking 2-FORE!-1 courses in between…

*Oulton Hall (pictured), West Yorks – Classy De Vere venue offering 27 holes of quality parkland golf in the form of the Calverley layout which boasts a decent variety of holes and is supported by the nine-hole Hall course featuring a thrilling downhill par-4 6th hole over water.

*St Mellion (Kernow course), Cornwall – Most golfers play the neighbouring Nicklaus so the much-improved Kernow – a former European Tour venue itself – is virtually empty! Plus it arguably boasts the resort’s most memorable hole – the stunning par-3 14th.

*Elsham, Lincs – Unjustly overshadowed by superstar modern neighbour Forest Pines, Elsham recently celebrated its centenary and is a fine parkland/heathland track in its own right. Be wary of the par-4 2nd – an intriguing left-to right dogleg even though it’s bunkerless.

*The Mendip, Somerset – Sumptuous scenery – you can see seven counties and the Bristol Channel from its highest point at nearly 1,000ft – surrounds this well established rollercoaster of an upland course.

*Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway – You’ll be knocked out by the stunning southern Scotland views along with the overall condition of this outstanding moorland layout just off the M74.

*Meltham, West Yorks – Hidden up in the hills above Huddersfield, this is a cracking parkland-woodland course which oozes charm. A good score can be made on this Yorkshire gem, but try to overpower it and you will come a cropper.
