2-FORE! Best of Britain: Cheshire

Cheshire is a 2-FORE!-1 Golf stronghold. The county is simply a hotbed of 2-FORE!-1 golf so head to the north west for some memorable 2-FORE!-1 action.

*De Vere Carden Park (pictured)  – With two wonderful 18-hole Championship courses and a De Vere Hotel and Spa, this Cheshire venue has developed into one of the most charismatic golfing destinations in the country.

The Nicklaus course, designed by the Golden Bear, is of course the one everyone wants to play and is the slightly longer of the two options (the Cheshire is the other). Feature holes come thick and fast, and unfortunately so will new golf balls out of your bag since water comes into sight on several holes.

*Shrigley Hall – Fine stay and play venue on the edge of the Peak District at the wonderfully named village of Pott Shrigley.

*Mere G&CC – Classy James Braid parkland act regarded as the ‘Wentworth of the North’ and recently improved by the impressive addition of a swish new hotel and spa.

*De Vere Mottram Hall – Two contrasting loops of nine make up a superb test of golf on this Dave Thomas-designed Championship track which last year staged a European Senior’s Tour event.

*The Tytherington – Splendid modern layout which several water features, putting the emphasis fairly and squarely on good course strategy.

*Portal G&CC – Another excellent stay and play venue, this time owned by Macdonald hotels and offering two contrasting layouts (the Championship and Premier).
