Major changes at top Cheshire venue

De Vere Carden Park Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa has furthered its reputation as the leading golf resort in the North West with a £100,000 bunker refurbishment programme across its two championship golf courses.

The Cheshire resort and popular 2-FORE!-1 venue has received a host of accolades from leading industry awards over recent years, and this investment aims to further build upon the first class golfing experiences following five months of intensive work.

A 16 strong team (pictured), comprised of both the resorts’ greenkeepers and a team of professional bunker renovators, completed the works whilst managing to keep the courses open for golfers to enjoy.

Having begun the project in November, the staff worked tirelessly through the wettest winter on record since 1910 to sculpt each bunker individually and ensure that the courses were in peak condition for the upcoming season.

In total, approximately 8000 square metres of turf was re-laid during the project, 2000 metres of new drains were installed and 1000 tons of new sand was used.

Golf Courses and Estates Manager, Peter Pattenden commented: “The old bunker construction was based on revetted links which had collapsed over the years making play difficult. Each bunker was assessed individually and a plan made on how to improve them, taking into account the impact each had on the standard of the game played. We are really proud of the hard work the team has done and the results are clear to see on the course.”

This investment into the golf courses marks the start of a continuous redevelopment project that is being undertaken across the whole resort, with the 196 bedrooms and bar areas being completely refurbished to bring everything in line with the golfing excellence that is available.

Hamish Ferguson, General Manager said: “This major bunker project has further improved the standard of our golf courses and ensures they match up to their stunning course layouts, to mean that we can boast one of the finest golfing experiences in the Cheshire area. All work being completed is to enhance the guest experience when choosing to visit or stay at Carden Park.”

Set amongst 1000 acres of beautiful Cheshire countryside, Carden Park centres around its two stunning championship courses.

The Nicklaus course was designed by 18-time major championship winner Jack Nicklaus and is a true test for golfers of all abilities, whilst the picturesque Cheshire course offers spectacular panoramic views across the Cheshire countryside.
