Golfers in the dark at Manchester venue

As darkness descended over Manchester’s Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club, a new breed of golfer emerged from the Tempo Bar in the clubhouse – all ready to take on the championship course… in the dark!

This special event was organised by the golf team at Worsley Park and The Night Golf Company for members and guests at the club.

Six holes were converted for the event which saw fairways and greens marked out with lights, making it look more like a runway than a golf course.

Stephen Hindle, Golf Operations Senior Supervisor at Worsley Park golf said; “A brave 28 ventured out into the darkness to take on the challenge. Whilst the limitations of the darkness and the dropping temperatures made it difficult for the competitors to bring their usual ‘game,’ everyone really enjoyed a fun night and we will look to repeat this event in the members’ social calendar in the future.”

With all six holes played and scores counted, it was Salford Reds scrum half, Tommy Lee, who clinched victory.

Mark Goodwin, director of The Night Golf Company, added: “Even though many of the players know the course like the back-of-their-hands, night golf is a great way of bringing everyone down to a level playing field and make what was once familiar – suddenly feel very different.”
