New course opens in Morocco

The exciting new PalmGolf Marrakech–Ourika course has opened and adds  a further option to Troon’s bolstering collective in Morocco…it sits alongside the Robert Trent Jones Jr designed sister venue PalmGolf Marrakech–Palmeraie.

Designed and developed by the Canadian duo, Neil Haworth (Nelson & Haworth Office) and Stéphane Talbot (Talbot Golf Design), the 18-hole course takes influence from its local surroundings, enhanced by a plantation of olive trees, palm trees and cypresses.

The venue adds to the already impressive portfolio of Troon-managed properties in operation in the country, bringing the total up to five operating venues benefitting from the market-leaders expert knowledge.

“PalmGolf Marrakech – Ourika is an exciting addition to the global Troon portfolio, the design team have created a course which harnesses the very best of Morocco in a format that can be enjoyed by every player.

“We look forward during this opening period, to working with the team to welcome guests in true Troon fashion,” commented Jon Schauder, Business Development Director, International Division and Area Director – Europe, Troon.

“Morocco has seen continued growth in rounds for a number of years, gathering a loyal client base from across Europe and further afield. These are extremely positive times for the country and we’re excited to be part of this development with Palmeraie Development Group, strengthening the existing relationship.”

From humble beginnings, the design team have carved the landscape for the course out of over 73 hectares of land, producing a semi-desert, Arizona styled layout.

With wide undulating fairways woven around the 46 expertly placed bunkers, players have to plot their way carefully around the Par-72 course which extends over 6,692 metres from the Championship tees.

Within the stunning backdrop of the Atlas Mountains, elevation changes and water hazards are key features of the design and its regular playing conditions, providing a fresh challenge for golfers of all abilities.

Stéphane Talbot, General Manager PalmGolf Marrakech also commented “We are extremely honored to welcome this new course to the PalmGolf Morocco family. The signature 17th hole will certainly leave a lasting impression on our guests, with its island green surrounded by sand.”

Located just 10 minutes from the bustling hub of downtown Marrakech and 15 minutes from the international airport, PalmGolf Marrakech – Ourika is an integral part of the “Atlas Gardens” project by Palmeraie Development Group.
