New irons for Padraig Harrington

With the Major championship season very much upon us, rumours are rife that three-time winner Padraig Harrington is testing out some new Wilson irons as he aims for his maiden Masters title next month at Augusta.

The Irishman enjoyed a stellar year in 2008, defending his Open Championship crown at Royal Birkdale and capturing the US PGA in the process, and this latest supposed-tinkering with the gear that served him so well last season will come as no surprise to the perfection-driven 37-year-old.

Although Wilson were somewhat guarded when TG Equipment Editor Jon Greathead caught up with them last week in Portugal, they did admit that there could be further developments in the forthcoming months.

Wilson’s 2009 product range is impressive, with the Di9 irons guaranteed to give the game-improver increased distance and better forgiveness, even on off-centre hits, while the Smooth and Spine woods are ideal big sticks for both the tee and the fairway.
