Motocaddy say S3 is legal for competition play after disqualifications

Motocaddy has moved to set the record straight after confusion regarding use of its S3 digital powered trolley in competition play.

In recent months a number of S3 owners have been disqualified or barred from playing in competitions because of the temperature settings on the trolley, which are banned under Rule 14-3, and distance measuring capability which is also banned, although permitted in some competitions under local rules.

However, Motocaddy has pointed out that the trolley can be set in competition mode which makes it completely legal for competitions.

The company has also announced that all models purchased after April 1, 2009 do not feature temperature settings in order to remove any doubt as to their legality.

“I would like to assure all of our existing customers who purchased a Motocaddy S3 Digital before April 1, 2009 that their model is perfectly legal for use in competitions. We have been assured by the R&A that as long as the screen is put into “Competition Mode”, which disables the temperature reading by taking it off the screen altogether, no rule will be contravened,” commented Rod Brown, managing director of Motocaddy Ltd.

“All owners have to do is press the left and right buttons on the handle together for a couple of seconds to engage the competition mode.”
