TG get first look at TaylorMade’s new Center of Excellence

At Today’s Golfer we like to think we get the inside track on what’s going on in the world of equipment first – and a recent visit to TaylorMade’s new Center of Excellence was another first for Britain’s best-selling golf magazine.

TG Equipment Editor Jon Greathead was the only magazine journalist from the UK to be given access to the impressive new facility in Herzogenaurach near Nuremburg in Germany – and our man was overwhelmed by the setup which provides golfers of all levels the opportunity to get the best out of their game through a series of fitting processes. And Jon even managed to sneak in a quick chat with world number three Sergio Garcia who along with football legend Franz Beckenbauer, were guests of honour at the event.

“It’s really impressive and it’s a great initiative to have. TaylorMade have a couple of these in the US and it’s great for the amateurs over here to see some of things that we, as professionals do to help get the most out of our equipment.”

At the heart of the Centre is the Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade (MAT-T) which is an innovative computer system that gathers vital swing data using several high speed cameras and state-of-the-art software. The system uses this information to create a 3D computer-animated swing image that is viewable from a plethora of different angles.

This data, combined with info obtained from a TrackMan fitting is then used to determine which TaylorMade clubs, and what specs, are most suitable for your game. And because essentially there are two fitting processes the golfer gets a better idea of what will be best for them.

Golfers can opt for either a MAT-T fitting (which includes the Trackman analysis as well) for 250 Euros or a TrackMan fitting for 100 Euros. The MAT-T option gives the golfer time with a tip-top fitting through both MAT-T and TrackMan, a DVD with images of their swing and a personal recommendation for 14 clubs and ball. The TrackMan only option provides the golfer a fitting for driver, fairway, hybrid or irons – and what makes this process even more brilliant is that golfers can walk away with their newly made clubs the same day! TaylorMade have on-site technicians and expert clubmakers to get the job done in record time. And we like that!

In the near future you will be able to see how our man Jon was fitted at this truly unique facility via a video link that will appear on this website – and for those wanting an even more in-depth look at the Center of Excellence we will also be featuring an article in a forthcoming magazine.
