Nickent Golf future cast into doubt

Rumours are rife that Nickent Golf has gone out of business following a move to put the company into receivership earlier this year.

One golf magazine in the US is reporting that the US-based company terminated its employees last Friday and will begin the process of liquidating its assets immediately.

According to a leaked email obtained by Golf World, a number of groups – including the Nickent management team – tried to craft a bankruptcy/buyout agreement with the bank but were not successful, leading the bank to pull the plug on the company.

However, Today’s Golfer understands that a deal to continue the company as a going concern is still very much on the agenda, particularly with the 2010 product already designed and ready to be shipped out.

The brand, known mainly for its hugely successful hybrids, was also looking to make a major move into the UK market in 2010 and although the recent revelations in the US have cast that in some doubt Today’s Golfer understands this remains a priority once the future of the company is stabilised as there is already a distribution network in place.
