As finishes to tournaments go, Edoardo Molinari’s birdie, birdie, birdie finish to win at the Johnnie Walker Championship was a stunning achievement but when you consider that his Ryder Cup place was likely on the line it was even more special.

Prior to the tournament the TaylorMade staff player knew that only a top-notch performance would give him a chance of earning a place in Monty’s Ryder Cup team.

So he finished three-under par for the final three holes to snatch the title from Australian Brett Rumford and cement his place in the team for Celtic Manor to join his brother Francesco.
