Garmin launch G3 and G5 Approach GPS’

Garmin have taken their GPS devices to the next level with the launch of the G3 and G5 Approach models.

Both models are a step up on Garmin’s previous devices because they feature colour touch screens and a map of each hole in front of you. Yardages to any point can be calculated by simply tapping the screen. It will even give you a yardage to the green from an adjacent fairway – if that’s where you find yourself every now and then.

Both units are preloaded with around 2,500 courses in the UK & Ireland as well as a number in mainland Europe. Free course downloads are available periodically when they become available and Garmin are aiming for 100 per cent coverage by the end of 2010.

The devices will also measure and record the distances of every shot and with the G5 you can assign a shot to a specific club to keep a permanent record of how far you are hitting every club in your bag.

You can also keep score and track your stats such as green, fairways and putts in regulation which can be downloaded to a PC to assess strengths and weaknesses in your game.

The G3 Approach is available for £249.99 and the G5 Approach £329.99. Another plus point is no subscription or download fees.
