Video review: first hit of Mizuno MP-53 irons

Published:

Mizuno say they have made a major breakthrough with their new MP-53 irons – because they are the most forgiving MP iron they’ve ever produced.

The MP-53s are designed to replace the MP-52 while also taking forgiveness in a better-player’s club to a new level.

As you would expect from a Mizuno iron they are grain flow forged but thanks to advances in manufacturing techniques, they’ve managed to mill a decent sized cavity into the back of the head for more forgiveness.

This has also given them an extremely hot face according to Mizuno – which means it has the highest COR (spring-like effect) of any MP iron in Mizuno’s history for faster ball speeds on off-centre strikes.

To see if the MP-53 irons really are the ultimate in terms of forgiveness and playability, TG’s gear duo Jonathan Greathead and David Connor took them onto the course. You can see how they got on in the video below.

We’ll also have a full review of the irons later in the year after they’ve gone through the rigours of our comprehensive 2011 irons test.
