PING BOYS ON SONG IN DUBAI

At TG we’ve been talking up PING gear since Adam was a lad, and further compelling evidence about how good the gear is came from Dubai this weekend.

PING staffers Miguel Angel Jimenez and Lee Westwood battled it out over the final day at the Dubai Desert Classic, with the Spaniard closing out the win at the third extra play-off hole.

The 46-year-old survived the first two play-off holes where Westwood looked odds-on to take the title. But when play moved from the par-5 18th to the par-4 9th, he took full advantage of Westwood’s inability to get up and down from the edge.

Jimenez’s arsenal of gear consisted of the PING Rapture driver, Tec woods, S57 irons, Tour W wedges and a Redwood Anser.

Westwood, whose ball-striking was a consistent feature of a fabulous final days-play in Dubai, was using a G10 driver, i15 3-wood, a Rapture V2 5-wood, i10 irons, Tour W wedges and, like Jimenez, a Redwood Anser.

Jimenez has now accumulated 16 Tour wins – nine of which have come in his 40s.
