It’s not every week that an amateur wins a prestigious European Tour title on his debut – but Irishman Shane Lowry did just that.
His victory in The 3 Irish Open in May 2009 catapulted him into the limelight and the man from Clara turned professional shortly afterwards.
Now, one year on Lowry has just competed in his first Major Championship, finishing in a creditable T37th at St Andrews in The Open.
A few weeks before his Open debut TG’s features writer Kit Alexander caught up with him at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth to talk through the equipment in his bag.
