Ping ambassador Lee Westwood has been the bridesmaid on more than one occasion after a terrific final round from a competitor so no-one can begrudge him a victory thanks to a final-hole blow up at the St Jude Classic.
Westwood was three shots behind Robert Garrigus as the American stood on the tee for the 72nd hole. But a triple-bogey from Garrigus gave both Westwood and Swede Robert Karlsson a chance of victory in the playoff.
Westwood was the man to hold his nerve and eventually sank a six-foot birdie putt for the win after four holes of the playoff.
The win was Westwood’s second on the PGA Tour and his first since 1998.
