What Gear Focus: TaylorMade Penta TP

Three and four-piece balls have been around for a while now, but TaylorMade have gone one layer better and launched the Penta TP, the world’s first five-piece ball.

The Penta TP features in our new What Gear Online part of the website, which we’ve created in association with onlinegolf.co.uk.

TaylorMade have designed the ball with five layers so that performance can be optimised in the five categories that we are all familiar with; off the tee, long-iron play, mid-iron play, scoring-iron play and wedge-play.

The core has been designed to give more distance off the tee, while the inner mantle helps golfers with slower swing speeds get better results with their long irons.

The middle mantle stops mid-irons from ballooning and the outer mantle helps to limit “zip-back” on short approaches. The cover, as you would expect, gives you fantastic control.

Two players who have recently benefited from the technology of the Penta TP are Simon Khan, who won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, and Jason Day who won the Byron Nelson in the USA.
