Cleveland CG16 wedges released

Published:

Cleveland have unveiled their new CG16 wedge as they look to maintain their position as one of the leading wedge brands on the planet.

The company are expecting big things in 2011 with the release of the new Launcher Ultralite driver range but they are best known as a wedge company and the CG16s are designed to carry on that mantle.

The wedges themselves are based on the hugely successful blueprint for the CG14 model, which proved popular in the hands of Tour players and amateurs alike.

However, there are some significant changes to the design, not least in the grooves where Cleveland have been forced to make some alterations because of the new groove rule introduced last year.

Their answer to the rule is the introduction of laser-milled texture lines in between each groove for maximum surface roughness and enhanced spin.

Another change is the removal of the garish yellow insert that featured in the rear of the CG14. This has been replaced by a simple and subtle cavity. This provides additional perimeter weighting to improve stability on off-centre strikes without losing the solid feel on pure strikes.

Elsewhere, Cleveland’s wider C-shaped sole provides versatility with material subtly removed from the heel and toe areas offering shot-making potential from a multitude of lies.

As you would expect the Cleveland CG16 wedges come in a variety of loft (46-64 degrees) and bounce options and are designed to follow any set of irons from PW up.

It also comes with Cleveland’s Traction wedge flex shaft. This features a softer tip section to improve feel and response and a stiffer mid and butt section to help stay consistent.

The wedges are available in satin chrome and black pearl finishes and have an RRP of £105.
